Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae, First named by Cramer in 1775.

Colour: Topside (recto)A black and red butterfly  This species has double tails. Underside (verso) beautifully patterned in reddy browns with black.

Size: Wingspan 60-65mm

Comments & Applications: Known as the Violet Washed Charaxes butterfly. A popular species used in the trade for butterfly framing, domes, artwork, photography, interior design and film.

Format: Unmounted, papered, wings folded, requires relaxing and setting
