Description
Taxonomy Identification: Family Pieridae. First named by Staudinger in 1869
Colour: A sexually dimorphic species. Male topside (recto) wings are yellowish white with bright orange wing tips. This orange patch has an inner black dash merging into black line, hind-wing yellowish with pale grey lattice patterns. The female topside (verso) forewings are white with a greyish dashed tip overlaid with pale orange and distinct black dash. The hind-wing is white with pale grey markings. The underside (verso) forewings are similar to topside but hind-wings verso have mottled green bars.
Size: Wingspan 30-40 mm
Comments & Applications: A southern European species distributed in France from the eastern Pyrenees to the Alpes-Maritimes into Italy. Absent from Britain. A stunning and beautiful butterfly seldom offered for sale.
