Description
Description
Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae, first named by Kollar in 1848
Colour: The topside (recto) of this butterfly is predominantly orange with black and yellow bars or patches running along the top edge of the forewing ending in a small white patch. The hind-wing is black and orange. The underside (verso) is brown with black.
Size: Wingspan 50-63mm
Comments & Applications: Very similar to the Small Tortoiseshell but a much rarer sub-species isolated to Jammu/Kashmir and into Himachal Pradesh in India. Sadly the quality of these specimens is poor. Nevertheless this is still a good opportunity to add an unusual species to your collection.
Format: Unmounted papered requires relaxing and setting.
