Taxonomy Identification: Family Danaidae, first named by Butler in 1836
Colour: (Topside) Wings have a base colour of black with vivid white patches. Underside (verso) is similar but paler with a reddish brown tinge.
Size: Wingspan 60-70mm
Comments & Applications: A species from the Danaidae or Milkweed family of butterflies found across Africa. Commonly called the Scarce Monk butterfly. An unusual species, not often offered for sale popular among collectors and an ideal butterfly for framing, domes, artwork, photography, interior design and film.
