Taxonomy Identification: Family Danaidae, first named by Butler in 1836
Colour: (Topside) Wings have a base colour of black with vivid white patches. Underside (verso) is similar but with large white area.
Size: Wingspan 80-90mm
Comments & Applications: A species from the Danaidae or Milkweed family of butterflies found in sub-saharan Africa. Commonly called the Friar butterfly. An unusual species, not often offered for sale popular among collectors and an ideal butterfly for framing, domes, artwork, photography, interior design and film.
