Taxonomy Identification: Amblypygi < Arachnidae, First named by Thorell in 1883
Colour: Overall colour brown.
Size: Length from tail to the tip of claws variable from 40-50mm – with legs 120-130mm – plus long sensory “legs” 270-300mm
Comments & Applications: Amblypygi meaning “blunt tail” is an ancient order of arachnid commonly known as whip spiders and tailless whip scorpions. Amblypygids possess no silk glands or venomous fangs, they rarely bite if threatened, but can grab fingers with their pedipalps, resulting in thorn-like puncture injuries. Incredibly long sensory legs up to 300mm!
As a specimen these are amazing creatures very popular among collectors and perfect for art and crafts applications as well as for photography, framing, horror film, entertainment and educational purposes
