Taxonomy Identification: Family Sphingidae. First named by Cramer in 1779
Colour: The topside (recto) forewings are dark brown with golden brown outer edge and two eye like markings. Hindwing are brown with oblique black lines, golden brown band and large pinkish red patch. Underside (verso) patterns similar but darker and lacks pink patch.
Size: Wingspan 110-130mm
Comments & Applications: A huge and impressive tropical hawk-moth, seldom offered for sale. It’s stunning pink patch on hindwings make this a popular collectors species. Commonly known in English as the Mango Hawk-moth Ideal for framing, doming, interior art design and educational applications.
