Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae, Morphini. Sub-species identified by Fruhstorfer in 1916.
Colour: Topside (recto) jet black with vivid blue bar/patch. Underside verso wings are coloured a mustard brown, forewing verso has a large black and white patch. Verso hind-wing interior pale creamy brown changing to darker mustard brown, fine pencil black lines, with a ‘cream-white spot’ and row of white spotted brown marginal lunules.
Size: Wingspan 90-100mm
