Taxonomy Identification: Family Myrmeleontidae, Ascalaphidae. Unidentified species
Colour: Abdomen dark reddish brown. Wings transparent with brown veins. Each wing has a black spot. Long black antenna with black clubbed end.
Size: Length measuring head to end of abdomen: 25-30mm. Wingspan 55-65mm. Specimens are supplied on a card base with spread wings.
Comments & Applications: These are crazy insects, looking like dragonfly crossed with a butterfly. Dragonfly like wings fast-flying predators of other flying insects, with large bulging eyes and strongly knobbed antennae like a butterfly. Commonly known as owlflies these are a giant type of lacewing. Incredible insects perfect subject for the arts and design industry, photography, film, entertainment and educational purposes.
