Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae, first named by Aurivillius in 1912
Colour: The female wings are black with large areas of blue and a small white patch on the forewing apex. Males are coloured similar but carry a green hue under the correct light and have a more yellowish-orange patch on the apex. The underside wings are pale brown with complex patterns and dark brown bar.
Size: Wingspan Male 55-60 – Female 65-85mm
Comments & Applications: Commonly called the Shining Green Forester butterfly, although it is more blue than green! Not often offered for sale, a nice collectors species and also useful for framing, domes, artwork, photography, interior design and film.
