Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae, first named by Ward in 1871
Colour: Dark brown butterfly with broad orange bar on forewings and white patch. The underside wings are pale brown.
Size: Wingspan males 65+mm – Females 70-85mm
Comments & Applications: A butterfly of dense forest habitat. Commonly called the broad-banded forester butterfly. Seldom offered for sale, a nice collectors species and also useful for framing, domes, artwork, photography, interior design and film.
