Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae, first named by Fabricius in 1793

Colour: Sexually dimorphic butterfly, males dark brown with black marking and overall purple hue; females dark brown with white and black patch on forewing.  The underside wings are pale brown.

Size: Wingspan males 55+mm – Females 70-85mm

Comments & Applications: A butterfly of dense forest habitat. Commonly called the dark palm forester butterfly. Seldom offered for sale, a nice collectors species and also useful for framing, domes, artwork, photography, interior design and film.
