Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae, first named by Aurivillius in 1895
Colour: Sexually dimorphic, males are dark brown black patterns and pale orange patch on forewing. Females have a hooked (falcate) forewing, coloured pale brown with dark brown patches, hindwing dark brown. The underside wings are pale brown with reddish brown line and white patch.
Size: Wingspan 55-70mm
Comments & Applications: A butterfly of dense forest habitat. Commonly called the falcate forester butterfly. Seldom offered for sale, a nice collectors species and also useful for framing, domes, artwork, photography, interior design and film.
