Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae, first named by Fabricius in 1893.
Colour: Sexually dimorphic, males are brown with darker black spots and orange bar on forewing. Females are blue edged in black with white patch on the forewing. The underside wings are pale brown.
Size: Wingspan 55-80mm
Comments & Applications: A butterfly of dense forest habitat. Commonly called the Sophus forester butterfly. Rarely offered for sale, a nice collectors species and also useful for framing, domes, artwork, photography, interior design and film.
