Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae. First named by Linnaeus, in 1767.
Colour: Topside wings are brownish-orange with latticed black lines and spots. The underside (verso) forewings are orange with black spots and dashes. The verso hind-wings are intricately patterned with a distinctive purplish band.
Size: Wingspan 28-34 mm
