Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae. First named by Esper in 1799
Colour: The topside (recto) is dark orange brown with black markings. The underside (verso) hind-wings are brownish orange with black and cream markings. The outer wing margin has a row of white-centred ocelli.
Size: Wingspan 35-40mm
Comments & Applications: Widespread across Balkan countries but localised to boggy peat habitats. A seldom offered species, its common name comes from the butterflies habitat environment.
