Taxonomy Identification: Family, Nymphalidae, First named by Staudinger in 1886
Colour: The base colour of the topside (recto) forewing is a mix of blackish-violet with a hooked orange-yellow bar. The hindwing carry a vivid violet blue patch. Please note the intensity of the blue varies between specimens. The underside (verso) forewing lacks the intese blue which is replaced by black. The forewing verso has thick orange bar and outer lines. The verso hindwing is much “busier” with pale yellowish brown lines splashed with dashes and lines of blue.
Size: Wingspan 45-48mm
