Taxonomy Identification: Family Hesperiidae. First named by Pallas in 1771
Colour: The topside (recto) is dark chocolate brown with vivid golden-orange markings. The underside (verso) wings are russet with cream spots rimmed in black, overall green tinge.
Size: Wingspan 23-27mm
Comments & Applications: A small delicate species, sadly declared extinct in England in 1976, now only found in small colonies confined to north-west Scotland. Widespread across Europe, also resident in North America. In England known as the chequered skipper but in other regions known as the Arctic skipper.
