Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae, ssp. esite. First identified by Felder in 1869
Colour: Sexually dimorphic. Male topside (recto) black with three bright orange patches across both wings. Edge of the wing has blue frosting – hence its common name the “blue Frosted Banner”. The Male underside (verso) is various shades of brown/black with a pale orange patch on the forewing. The female recto is black with the thick pale yellow bar on the forewing with a red spot, hindwing black with a twin line of yellow spots at the outer edge of the wing. Verso similar but paler.
