Description
Taxonomy Identification: Family Sphingidae. First named by Walker in 1856
Colour: A variable species, with regard to both forewing upperside ground colour and pattern intensity. There are seven oblique postmedian lines on the forewing upperside. There is considerable variation in the brightness of the spaces between the bands. Both the forewing and hindwing underside ground colour is orange-beige. There is a pale buff median band of variable width located on the hindwing upperside.
Size: Wingspan 80-120mm
Comments & Applications: This is a large hawk-moth is distributed across India into Asia. Examples here from Myanmar / Burma – difficult to obtain from this part of the world. Always popular among the trade, perfect for display frames, domes, insect design art and craft applications.
