Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae, Named by Drury in 1782
Colour: Colouration topside (recto) black with white speckles on forewing and bright crimson patch in hindwing. The underside (verso) of the wings is intricately patterned with black lines and spots on a base colour of cream, black and rustic orange.
Size: Wingspan 45-55mm
Comments & Applications: A wide ranging species found throughout the Neotropical region. Commonly called the Crimson Patch butterfly. Always a popular species because of its vibrant colouration and amazing silver dots.
