Taxonomy Identification: Family Sphingidae. First named by Rothschild & Jordan in 1903
Colour: The topside (recto) forewings chocolate brown with lighter patch toward the wing tip. The hind-wings are black edged in pale brown. The underside is pale brown.
Size: Wingspan 120-150mm
Comments & Applications: This is a huge and much sought after collectors species, rarely offered for sale. English common name is the Scarce Velvet Hawkmoth. Ideal for higher end butterfly framing, domes, artwork or interior design where you are looking for a more unusual species.
