Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae. First named by Godart in 1824
Colour: The topside (recto) of the male is blood red, hind wings edged in a black spots. Hind-wings a reddish-brown with fine markings. Female highly variable from orange to brown. hind-wings have a scalloped line with black spots edged in white.
Size: Wingspan 60-70mm
Comments & Applications: The male in stunning red is extremely popular among the art and craft industry. Commonly know as the Blood Red Glider butterfly. Also popular with collectors. One of several red cymothoe species.
