Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae, First named by Linnaeus in 1758
Colour: Topside (recto) wings are coloured brown with intricate black and orange lines between which lie rows of black spots. The underside (verso) is similar but paler with a bright white central bar.
Size: Wingspan 55-65mm
