Taxonomy Identification: Family Heliconiinae, Named by Fabricius in 1775

Colour: Colouration topside (recto) surface layer of the wings is deep orange in colour with fainter black streaks near the forewing apex. The underside (verso) of the wings is shades of brown and grey.

Size: Wingspan 70-90mm

Comments & Applications: A common species throughout the Neotropical region, from Mexico. This butterfly has various common names including: the Julia butterfly, Julia heliconian, the flame, or flambeau. Always a popular species because of its vibrant colouration and amazing long wings.
