Entomology Workshops – Join us on a voyage of discovery!
Learn the skill of Insect taxidermy!
Our workshops are located at the National Centre for Craft and Design or HUB located in the historic market town of Sleaford Lincolnshire. The HUB is a celebrated centre for exhibitions showcasing contemporary artists and makers from around the world. Join us to learn firsthand the Victorian art of how to “pin” a butterfly and beetle!
- Our family ran enterprise has over 40 years of practical experience in the fascinating world of entomology producing some of the highest quality specimens in the United Kingdom
- Since the time of Carl Linnaeus who formalised the naming of organisms, one interest group known as the Aurelian’s stand out as pioneers. These early lepidopterists began the art of butterfly preservation
- The Victorian lepidopterists honed these skills and created the “pinning” method – anyone who has tried to “pin” a butterfly will tell you how difficult it can be to spread the wings of a butterfly!
- Our 21st century world has Museum’s brimming with preserved insects, but these collections did not form by chance! Thousands of hours of work went into creating these exquisite reference collections
- We believe future generations have a right to this rich heritage
- Would you like to learn this almost lost art? Why not at least have a go?
- Here at wobam we have created fun interactive workshops where you can learn the history of Lepidoptery and try your hand at “setting” your very own butterfly and beetle!
- Workshops include:
- An introductory lecture and video presentation
