Taxonomy Identification: Family Saturniidae. First named by Hampson in 1919
Colour: The topside (recto) wings are brown with darker lines, pinkish patches, and tiny ocelli. Hindwing have larger ocelli long thing tails. The underside wings (verso) are similar but paler. Pink body.
Size: Wingspan 55-65mm, trailing tails 90-115mm
Comments & Applications: This is a super rare African silk moth with amazing long trailing tails. One for the connoisseur collector, also useful in high end bespoke productions. The family latin name “Eudaemonia” means “flourishing” used by the philosopher Aristotle to describe the highest good humans could strive toward – or a life ‘well lived’.
