Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae, first named by Hecq in 1979
Colour: Topside (recto) wings black with white patch/bar on forewing apex. Lower forwing margin and hind-wings carry large blueish patches. The underside (verso) forewing is olive with various black spots and a white patch/bar at wing apex. Hind-wing verso buff-orange with large area of pink fading to burnt orange at the margin. A row of black square hoops don the wing margin.
Size: Wingspan 70-80mm
Comments & Applications: A beautiful African butterfly not often offered for sale. Commonly called the acute pink forester butterfly. A rare collectable species and also popular for framing, domes, artwork, photography, interior design and film.
