Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae, first named by Hewitson in 1865
Colour: Topside (recto) wings black with large orange patches. The underside (verso) forewing is olive with various black spots and a pale orange patch at wing apex. Hind-wing verso buff-orange with row of black marginal spots edged greenish olive. A reddish patch dons the thoracic centre of the hind-wings.
Size: Wingspan 80-90mm
Comments & Applications: A beautiful African butterfly not often offered for sale. Commonly called the Golden Themis forester butterfly. A collectable species and also popular for framing, domes, artwork, photography, interior design and film.
