Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae, first named by Hecq in 1983
Colour: Topside (recto) wings black with pale orange patch on forewing apex. Lower forewing and hind-wings carry large blueish-orange patches. The underside (verso) forewing is olive with various black spots and a pale orange patch at wing apex. Hind-wing verso buff-orange with black spots/dashes and a row of black marginal spots edged greenish olive.
Size: Wingspan 80-90mm
Comments & Applications: A beautiful African butterfly not often offered for sale. Commonly called the Demeter Ceres forester butterfly. A collectable species and also popular for framing, domes, artwork, photography, interior design and film.
