Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae, first named by Schultze in 1920
Colour: Highly variable between specimens. Topside (recto) wings black with dark blue patches, faint row of black/navy spots on hind-wing. The forewing apex can has a pale orange yellow patch. The underside (verso) is again highly variable, forewing olive brown with various black spots and either pale white or yellowish patch at wing apex. Hind-wing verso buff-orange with row of black marginal spots edged in blue or white.
Size: Wingspan 85-100mm
Comments & Applications: A beautiful African butterfly not often offered for sale. A collectable species and also popular for framing, domes, artwork, photography, interior design and film.
