Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae, first named by Staudinger in 1886
Colour: Topside (recto) wings black with orange patch on forewing apex. Topside hind-wing black with large blueish-orange patches. The underside (verso) forewing is olive with various black spots and a pale orange-white patch at wing apex. Hind-wing verso buff-orange with small black dashes and row of black squares along the wing margin. At the thoracic centre is a patch of reddish-orange.
Size: Wingspan 80-95mm
Comments & Applications: A beautiful African butterfly not often offered for sale. Commonly called the Justicia Themis forester butterfly. A rare collectable species and also popular for framing, domes, artwork, photography, interior design and film.
