Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae, first named by Schultze in 1920
Colour: Highly variable between specimens. Topside (recto) wings black with dark blue patches, faint blue row of spots on hind-wing. The forewing apex can has a pale ornage yellow patch, this can be absent in some examples. The underside (verso) is again highly variable, forewing olive brown with various black spots and either pale white or yellowish patch at wing apex. Hind-wing verso orangish-red with row of black marginal spots edged in blue or white.
Size: Wingspan 80-90mm
Comments & Applications: A beautiful African butterfly not often offered for sale. Commonly called the pearl-edged Ceres forester butterfly. A collectable species and also popular for framing, domes, artwork, photography, interior design and film.
