Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae, first named by Hewitson in 1866.
Colour: Topside (recto) wings are black with large brassy-green blue patches, black marginal spots, orange-white bar on forewing. The underside (verso) is pale orange-brown with cream, bar on forewing.
Size: Wingspan 70-85mm
Comments & Applications: A beautiful and scarce butterfly from subsaharan Africa inhabiting forests. Euphaedra are sought after collectors species and also popular for framing, domes, artwork, photography, interior design and film.
