Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae, first named by Bartel in 1905
Colour: Topside (recto) wings black with large areas of blue. Topside hind-wing almost all blue with black edge. The underside (verso) forewing is olive with pale white patches and small black spots/dashes. The hind-wing verso buff-orange with small black dashes and small white patch. The wing margin has a faint outline of black spots. The female has larger areas of white on the underside and the topside wing apex has a white bar.
Size: Wingspan 80-95mm
Comments & Applications: A beautiful African butterfly not often offered for sale. Commonly called the brown-patch Ceres butterfly. A rare collectable species and also popular for framing, domes, artwork, photography, interior design and film.
