Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae, First named by Hewitson in 1858.
Colour: Topside (recto) wings pale cream-white sometimes with purple spots, hindwings pale with brown margins. Underside (recto) wings similar but with several additional violet-white spots on the recto hindwing.
Size: Wingspan 60-70mm
Comments & Applications: A widespread species with variable colours and patterns producing numerous sub-species ranging in colour from brown and white to jet black. A rare collectors specimen, also useful for butterfly framing, domes, artwork, photography, interior design and film.
