Taxonomy Identification: Family Agamidae, First named by Gray in 1831
Colour: Head, body and legs blackish-grey. Patagial membranes (wings) in males red and black, in females yellow and black. Patterns are highly variable, from spots or dashes to thick bars or stripes.
Size: Length from head to curled tail: 150-170mm (tails longer if straightened). Wingspan: 70-80+mm.
Comments & Applications: Wow! One of the most spectacular species of lizard on planet earth. These lizards are well known for their colourful “display structures” and ability to glide long distances using their wing-like, patagial membranes supported by elongated thoracic ribs to generate lift forces.
