Taxonomy Identification: Family Pieridae. First named by Linnaeus in 1758
Colour: The topside (recto) of the male is bright yellow with orange spots on all four wings. The female is coloured pale green with orange spots on all four wings. The undersides (verso) on both sexes are similar but paler.
Size: Wingspan 60-73mm
Comments & Applications: A beautiful spring species, common throughout its range. Females less often offered for sale. Dried butterflies make the perfect subject for school science projects. Also for framing, domes, photography, interior design and film applications.
