Taxonomy Identification: Family Heliconiinae, first named by Hewitson in 1867,
Colour: (Topside) A black butterfly with yellow patch on the forewing and red bar on the hindwing. The underside of the wings are black with white patch on forewing.
Size: Wingspan 60-70mm
Comments & Applications: A medium sized longwing butterfly from central and South America, one of the more unusual species. A popular butterfly for framing, domes, artwork, photography, interior design and film.
