Taxonomy Identification: Family Lycaenidae. First named by Fruhstorfer in 1912
Colour:The male topside (recto) wings are pale blue to dark brown above, dark shining purple depending on the light. The female butterfly has dark brown wings. Both sexes have a black discal spot. The underside (verso) of both sexes pale greyish brown with black and orange spot
Size: Wingspan 26-34mm
Comments & Applications: A small delicate hairstreak butterfly, quite rare and one for the serious collector. Know locally as the “common tit”. Dried butterflies make the perfect subject for school science projects. Also framing, domes photography, interior design and film applications.
