Taxonomy Identification: Family Saturniidae. First named by Rebel in 1904
Colour: The colouration of this moth is highly variable. Overall base colour from light to dark brown with a dusting of tiny black speckles. Each wing has a distinct dark brown and pink marginal line. The hindwing carries a bright eyelet consisting of concentric circles of blush pink, pinkish red, black, buff with a white centre. The Male hind-wing’s end in triangular pointed tails, these are missing in females.
Size: Wingspan 95-125mm
Comments & Applications: A large tropical silk-moth, commonly called the confused Emperor, probably due to its colour variations. A collectable species also ideal for framers, photography and the art and design industry.
