Taxonomy Identification: Family Lycaenidae. First named by Felder in 1860
Colour: Both sexes are brown on the topside (recto) males have a faint hint of purple. The underside (verso) of both sexes is similar pale brown with multiple thin white lines creating an intricate patterns. At the terminus of the hind-wing is a single black spot circled in a thin orange/silver line.
Size: Wingspan 17-25mm
Comments & Applications: A small delicate species, quite rare and collectable. Commonly known as the Pointed Line-blue butterfly. Dried butterflies make the perfect subject for school science projects. Also for framing, domes, photography, interior design and film applications.
NOTE: Small Lycaenidae are notoriously difficult to taxidermy – not recommended for beginners.
Format: Unmounted, papered, wings folded, requires relaxing and setting
