Taxonomy Identification: Family Lycaenidae. First named by Hubner in 1819
Colour: The topside (recto) of the male is blue with a central white patch, while the female topside is white with a hint of blue with a thick black edge to wings. The underside (verso) of both sexes is similar with a wide central white patch edged in brown with prominent black eyelets on lower hind-wings.
Size: Wingspan 25-30mm
Comments & Applications: A small delicate species, quite rare and collectable. Commonly known as the Pointed Line-blue butterfly. Dried butterflies make the perfect subject for school science projects. Also for framing, domes, photography, interior design and film applications.
NOTE: Small Lycaenidae are notoriously difficult to taxidermy – not recommended for beginners.
