Taxonomy Identification: Family Scarabidae, sub-family Melolonthinae. First named by Fabricius in 1801.
Colour: Overall colour white to off-white. There is a faint line of mustard-yellow along the outer edge of the elytra.
Size: Length measuring from the tip of the head to the end of the abdomen but excluding the legs and antenna: 40-45mm
Comments & Applications: This beetle is a member of the “cockchafer” family of scarab beetles. It’s larvae or grub is a pest of sugarcane plantations. Commonly called the “Sugarcane White Grub”. This is an unusual collectable species, perfect for educational work in pest control or for art and design applications such as in photography, framing, interior design, film and entertainment.
