Taxonomy Identification: Family Satyridae. First named by Linnaeus in 1758
Colour: A sexually dimorphic species. Males dark brown with faint orange patch at apex and small eye spot. Females larger and generally paler brown with much more prominent orange patch and eye spot.
Size: Wingspan 39-60 mm
Comments & Applications: A common and widespread butterfly found throughout Britain. Commonly known as the Meadow Brown butterfly.
