Description
Taxonomy Identification: Family Odonota, first named by Selys in 1860
Colour: The head, thorax and abdomen are black with pale yellow-white on the sides. The wings are ochre with a cream patch at the wing apex. Note: Dead specimens fade rapidly and bright colours are replaced by a standard brown/black.
Size: Wingspan 100-130mm
Comments & Applications: A huge damselfly from Peru, seldom offered for sale and sought after by collectors. This is one of the largest species in the world and a popular choice among the art and craft industry, photography, wall hangings, box framing, interior design, film, entertainment and educational purposes
Important note before purchase: Members of the Odonota family are very fragile insects. During the drying process legs, head and abdomens become very brittle. Body parts are prone to separate especially during the rehydration process. This is a common issue which necessitates various degrees of repair. We recommend insect glue for repair. In some cases, a nylon rod is pushed through the thorax down into the abdomen to help secure the insect. Not for begginers.
Format: Supplied Unmounted, papered, requires relaxing and setting – wings folded
