Taxonomy Identification: Family Nymphalidae, First named by Menetries in 1859
Colour: The colour of the topside (recto) wings is black with white patches on the forewing and hint of reddish-brown. Hind-wings recto have a large white patch with blueish surround. The underside (verso) forewing is a mix of black, and dark blue with glossy light blue, while the hindwing verso is coloured glossy light blue with reddish orange bar and margin.
Size: Wingspan 78-90mm
Comments & Applications: A large butterfly with a beautiful coloured underside; commonly called the Schrenck’s Emperor. A very popular species used widely in butterfly art, wall hangings, framing, domes, artwork, photography, interior design/craft, film, science and educational applications.
