Taxonomy Identification: Family Lebiinae. First named by Hagenbach in 1825
Colour: These beetles are a glossy toffee brown colour with distinctive violin-shaped translucent elytra (hence the common name) .
Size: Length 90+mm.
Comments & Applications: This beetle is a flat leaf-shaped species its characteristic mimicry protects them against predators, while their flat shaped body allow them to dwell in soil cracks or under the bark and leaves of trees. Head and pronotum are very elongated, with long antennae and the legs are long and slender. An impressive and curious beastie! An ideal subject for artwork, photography, film, entertainment or educational purposes.
