Taxonomy Identification: Family Morphini, First named by Hopffer in 1874
Colour: The topside (recto) of this butterfly is a shimmering iridescent blue. The underside (verso) is brown with rows of eye like markings.
Size: Wingspan 120-160 mm
Comments & Applications: An absolutely stunning butterfly. The most popular of the Morpho butterfly species. Used extensively by the art and design industry for use in decorative frames, domes and interior design. Also useful in close up photography, artwork, film and educational applications.
NOTE: Our stocks of this species are captive bred. The abdomens have been removed to avoid body fat leaching into the wings, a process known as leaching.
