Taxonomy Identification: Family Morphini, First named by Westwood in 1850
Colour: Topside wings are dark brown on the edges with pale yellow marginal spots. Toward the centre of the wings the base colour changes to a paler brownish-yellow with varying degrees of blue. Underside (verso) reddish-brown with hints of silver and rows of eye-spots (ocelli).
Size: Wingspan 100-140mm
Comments & Applications: This is a large Morpho and spectacular butterfly but lacks the iridescent blue which characterises the Morpho family name. Nevertheless an impressive butterfly popular with the trade for frames domes, artwork, photography, interior design and film
